About Meeling

"Art is a living process. It begins with me in the creation and continues with you, in the experience" -Meeling

I work under the artist name Meeling. I grew up in Germany, with Chinese and German roots, and have made Sweden my home for the past 25 years. Different belongings and perspectives have followed me through life and are part of the gaze I bring into my artistry. Art has always been a natural part of my life. My early interest in both art and science has shaped my choices – from painting to a professional life with people at the center. Countless encounters have deepened my understanding of our similarities and differences, what unites us, and what shapes our behaviors. They have also taught me much about myself and have become part of what I bring into my creative work.

As a self-taught artist, I have developed my own abstract visual language where intuition meets conscious artistic choices. I work with acrylic paint in layers and overpaintings, where I build up and break down the image. Forms and impressions are repeated, shifted, hidden, and re-emerge. What has previously been on the canvas leaves traces in what emerges and creates a cohesive visual language, even when the paintings differ in color, expression, and mood.

I draw inspiration from human relationships, nature, the passage of time, and what is happening around us. I am particularly fascinated by what lies beneath the visible – memories, connections, and moments that leave traces.

My paintings have different expressions, sometimes colorful and energetic, sometimes more restrained. I like the idea that a work of art can evoke a feeling, create atmosphere, and give a room character. That a painting can continue to surprise and evoke new associations over time.

For me, art does not need to have a set meaning. What you see and experience in a painting does not have to be the same as what I experienced when I created it. Right there, in the meeting between the work and the viewer, the art is allowed to continue living.

A warm welcome to discover my art and let it become a part of your own story.
